I use the 'tangled' game where you place students into groups of six (or whatever number of students you wish) and get them to hold hands with someone in their group other than the person standing next to them making sure they are not holding both hands with the same person. Then each group needs to untangle by going under, over arms; turning and twisting around each other etc. until their group are untangled and in a circle holding hands with the person next to them & yes it does work!

Yes! I've played this game before too, but know it as "The Human Knot". It's always been one of my most favourite games too!

I use the secret silent handshake game as an Ice-breaker. Write Numbers 1,2,3,4,5 on slips of paper. Need enough for each child to draw 1 number out. Work it out evenly using your class size. When students know their secret number assemble them together in a space. They have to play silently. They go around the group and if their number is 3 they have to pump 3 handshakes. If the person also does three pumps they are a match. They belong in the same tribe. The aim is for all students to find their tribe. It is easy to ascertain who is isn't in tribe by the number of handshake pumps. This can also be done with secret animal sounds (if you like noise) or sports / animal actions rather than handshakes.
