The only thing I don't like about this is that the students have to read the y axis first instead of the x axis. Could it be swapped around so that the numbers run on the y axis and the letters go across on the x axis? This is how we teach them to read coordinates at school. Having it this way is confusing when the instructions are y coordinate first...
