The following concepts are addressed in detail:

  • place value in the tens of thousands
  • writing 5-digit numbers in words (and vice versa)

  • using a numeral expander
  • expanding numbers by place value
  • writing numbers in expanded notation

    Hi! I have noticed that slide 8 has an error - 43 722 (forty three thousand, one hundred and thirty two).... meant to be 43 722 (forty three thousand, SEVEN hundred and TWENTY two).

      But there is another mistake with the place values. In the yellow writing underneath the table, 2 x 10 should say 2 x 1.

    Adding zeros to the end of numbers confuses students when they get to year 5 as they cannot simply add a zero to 4.5. teaching the actual place value is far more important
