Sweet Cupcakes – Interactive Phoneme Segmentation Activity

In this fun cupcake-themed interactive phoneme segmentation activity, students say the picture name and drag and drop the candles onto the cupcake for the number of phonemes in the word. For example, for the word duck, they would then drag three candles over to the cupcake to show the three sounds of d-u-ck.

The words included have either 2 phonemes, 3 phonemes, or 4 phonemes.

Phoneme Segmentation Activities

As students continue their learning to read and spell journey, practising segmenting words into phonemes in various ways is crucial. As teachers, we know the importance of repetition and also practising in a variety of ways. By incorporating interactive phoneme segmentation activities, hands-on activities, and, finally, some simple worksheets, you are catering to the different learning styles within your classroom.
