Challenge upper elementary students to build a pirate ship with a fun (and engaging) STEM challenge created by teachers, for teachers.
Use this STEM challenge to encourage critical thinking and problem-solving in a design technology context.
Students design and construct a pirate ship that can remain afloat while holding as many coins as possible. The boat that can hold the most coins wins! The task enables students to use a variety of materials in order to solve the design challenge.
The teaching resource contains a task card that outlines the challenge and a worksheet for recording and reflecting upon the design process.
Full color, low color, and black and white versions are available.
