As students add the correct number of candles to the cake, they visually connect numbers with quantities, reinforcing their counting skills. Using Our Counting Candles Birthday Cake Activity
This counting candles birthday cake activity is easy to use! Simply follow the steps below to get your students counting to and representing numbers up to 20.
- Print, cut, and then laminate the birthday cake template, number strips, and candles.
- Connect the number strips to make one long strip from 0 to 20.
- Cut along the dotted lines on the birthday cake to create two openings.
- From the back, feed the number strip through one opening and back through the other so that only one number can be seen at a time.
- To play, students will look at the number shown and add the same number of candles to the cake.
- Move the strip to count forwards and backwards from 0 to 20.
