Vocabulary Menus: Engaging Word Study Made Easy!

Everyone knows that kids love choosing what they want to work on! It is scientifically proven that having choice in the classroom increases participation and retention. When students are given choices in how they engage with content, they learn more and retain that information longer. That’s where these vocabulary menus come in!

Fun Vocab Activities for Every Classroom

These vocabulary menus offer multiple ways for students to practice, from writing and illustrating definitions to creating their own word games. Whether used for independent practice, homework, or small group instruction, these choice boards help accommodate diverse learning styles while keeping vocabulary practice engaging.

This set of fun vocab activities includes three differentiated vocabulary menu templates tailored to different grade levels:

  • Primary (1st-2nd Grade): Simple word activities focusing on picture representation, sentence-building, and sorting exercises.
  • Elementary (3rd-4th Grade): Engaging vocabulary tasks such as making crossword puzzles, using words in creative writing, and categorizing words by meaning.
  • Upper Elementary & Middle School (5th-Middle School Grades): More complex word analysis activities, including using words in context, synonym and antonym challenges, and word etymology tasks.

With these fun vocab activities, you can meet students at their individual levels while maintaining consistent vocabulary instruction across the classroom.
