In the age of social media and fake news, helping students distinguish between facts and opinions is more important than ever before.
To help your student practice this essential life skill, the Teach Starter team has created this set of fact or opinion questions task cards. Each task card contains a multiple-choice question for the students to answer. For example:
Which of these statements is a fact about fire trucks?
a) Fire trucks drive too fast.
b) Fire trucks are very loud.
c) Fire trucks have a siren to use in emergencies.
The answer, of course, is c!

Multiple Uses for These Fact or Opinion Questions
These versatile fact or opinion task cards can be integrated into your lessons in multiple ways. Here are some suggestions to get you thinking:
- Lesson Warm-Up – Use a few task cards at the beginning of a lesson to get students thinking about the differences between facts and opinions.
- Small Group Discussions – Have students take turns reading and answering a card, explaining their reasoning to their peers.
- Scoot Activity – Place the cards around the room and let students rotate through each one, answering questions as they go.
- Fast Finisher Challenge – Provide the task cards as an extension activity for students who complete their work early.
- Exit Tickets – Use a few task cards at the end of a lesson to assess student understanding before they leave the classroom.
